Facial Cosmetic Acupuncture

A natural aesthetic treatment gaining popularity worldwide.

What is facial cosmetic acupuncture and how does it work?

Advanced facial cosmetic acupuncture is a natural facial rejuvenation treatment. It helps reduce the signs of ageing by improving facial muscles’ tone and elasticity, increasing collagen production, and invigorating blood and lymph circulation in the face, consequently boosting the skin’s supply of nutrients and oxygen. As we age, the production of collagen in the body slows down, making it more and more challenging to maintain skin tone and elasticity. Facial cosmetic acupuncture (FCA) involves the insertion of very thin sterile single-use needles into the face, head, and neck. Acupuncture needles help stimulate and regenerate both the muscles of the face and skin muscles. The technique boosts the production of collagen which improves the skin elasticity and makes it ‘cushiony’. Needling of fine lines on the face creates a therapeutic skin micro-injury that prompts the body to activate the healing process in the desired area. Collagen fibres in the skin start to ‘knit together’ plumping up and smoothing facial wrinkles. Acupuncture also improves wrinkles by reducing the tension of the facial muscles. Inserting acupuncture needles in the muscles eliminate the tension, hence aiding in decreasing wrinkles.

Chinese medicine has a saying – “Where Qi goes, blood flows”

Facial acupuncture is based on the same principles as traditional body acupuncture, and according to Traditional Chinese medicine theory, it can help stimulate the flow of blood and energy through the skin in the face. In ancient China, acupuncture was used for cosmetic purposes since Qin Dynasty (221-206 BC). Chinese Medical Cosmetology (Mei Rong) was designed to preserve beauty and maintain health. It included acupuncture and herbal therapy, and at that time this imperial secret holistic regimen was available only to the richest members of society.

The benefits of facial acupuncture are supported by published scientific evidence. For example, a study in the International Journal of Clinical Acupuncture showed that among 300 people receiving cosmetic acupuncture treatments, 90% had significant improvements after a course of treatments such as diminishing of fine lines, brighter skin tone and enhanced facial muscles elasticity.

Individuals will have different responses to treatment depending on their age and lifestyle. Often, noticeable results can be seen immediately, with more long-lasting improvements appearing over the course of treatment. Rejuvenation produced by facial acupuncture is cumulative and may last for years after a course of treatments providing that top-up sessions are maintained regularly.
